Prior to departure

Alice Brown, Ruth McVicker and Rhona Kennedy met several times to discuss and plan for the trip. We had many ideas and aspirations. We had been asked to give an early literacy workshop for teachers in Hillview and from other local schools. Staff met to plan this and produce resources to support staff in South Africa. We also had a visit from a local secondary teacher who had just returned from a visit and had helpful hints and tips. He even went to the trouble of giving us a handout of useful suggestions!
Our parent representative was keen to meet and interact with parents at Hillview and Mali had said she would arrange a meeting of the Board of Governors to arrange this. We had support from the City of Edinburgh to help with insurance and other matters.
The biggest worry which grew and grew was the logistics of getting 440 pencil cases on the plane!
